Joan Dans Editor

About

A self-confessed grammar nerd, I literally cannot help myself from line-editing everything I see. It’s not usually a quality that endears me to others, unless you happen to need your book or story edited, and then you will like me a lot!

I studied language, literature, and translation at Harvard and graduated magna cum laude. Then continuing onto a master’s degree, I wrote my thesis on the aesthetics of Japanese-to-English literary translation, concentrating on the works of modern feminist writers such as Tsushima Yuko and songwriters like Nakajima Miyuki.

As a reader, I love literary fiction, science fiction, and will not turn down a good beach read. In non-fiction, I’m obsessed with modern memoir and enjoy living someone else’s life for the length of their book. As a writer, I’ve written dozens of magazine and newspaper articles, and I have recently finished a work of non-fiction (memoir) and a draft of a novel.

I’m available for freelance and contract-based line editing, copyediting, and proofreading.

Contact me below for a consultation to see if I’m the right editor for your project.
